I was on my way home from the grocery store and I was on the highway and I was going about 60 and it was dark and we don't have street lights and a dog ran out from the left side and ran across 4 lanes and I was in the far right lane and I hit it. It came out of no where and I didn't see it cuz it was so dark till it was in the view of my headlights and by that time it was too late! I was going too fast to stop but when I saw it I slammed on my breaks right away and I started crying because I knew I wasn't going to be able to stop or slow down enough. I was able to get down to 40 in literally 2 seconds and I hit it. And I couldn't have swerved cuz there was a car to the left of me and had I swerved to the right I would have flipped my car so I just kept my wheel straight and slammed on my breaks and I still hit it. I called my parents and the drove down to where I was able to pull off on the road and I was shaking and crying so bad I couldn't even stand up. I think it scared me more then anything else. And my parents told me to go home and they were going to go back and check and they did but it wasn't there. So either someone stopped and picked it up or it was okay enough to walk away. When I hit it it was right in the middle of my car so my dad said maybe I just "knocked" it down and none of my tires hit it and it just went straight out the back and was fine and a little bruised but I'm still freaked out. I'm going to have nightmares about it now!

aww your not a terrible person! its not your fault that you couldn't see the dog.
Im sure that the dog was ok to get up and walk away.

I hope so. It had to have been out for awhile cuz it was at least 2 miles from any houses so the owners should have noticed it had gotten out and just didn't care.

that happened to me one time except with a cat. it was bad
